All Access to the Rockies new Spring Training Facility
Matt got to go on a private tour of the brand new (not yet open) Colorado Rockies spring training facility. It was an amazing experience to see such a beautiful complex before it was ready for the world. "Back Stage Pass!" as Wayne and Garth would say.

Four Years?!
We celebrated our fourth anniversary this past week. We met for lunch at Chipotle (very romantic - haha) on Thursday and then Matt planned a date night for us on Saturday. The destination was a surprise to me and all I was told was when to be ready and what to wear.At 5:00 on Saturday and we drove to Peoria for our date. Matt took me to the Arizona Broadway Theatre. We had drinks in the lobby and at 6:00 we took our seats in the theatre. There were roses on the table and a bottle of wine for the evening. We had bread, salad, and dinner and then watched the first half of "My Fair Lady". We were served dessert at intermission and then watched the rest of the play. It was such a fun night and a great date night out with my romantic husband.
What a wonderful four years we've had. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our wedding day.

Tell Us a Story
Ellie was "playing" on the floor the other night and was in such a good mood. Matt caught some of her cute smiles and coos. We love that she's starting to communicate with us in her own way. She's such a great little baby!

Our Little Monkey
Matt took the girls to the park yesterday afternoon. Hayden loves the bars and I swear she's our little monkey. If she can jump, hang, or swing on something she'll find a way. Matt found a gymnastic gym down the street from our house so I'm going to take her for her first "class" this Saturday.

Family Fun
In early December the Roberts family and Wolach family came in for a weekend of family fun.
Beth, Phil, Zoe, and Zachy flew in from Utah and Dave and Sarah drove in on a Friday afternoon. We met at our house for sandwiches and beer and had a fun and relaxing afternoon. The three older kids wanted to play outside so we hung out by the pool. Zoe brought her swimsuit and wanted to go in the pool so we got the girls in their suits and headed outside. Zoe got in and walked around on the baja step and Hayden dipped her feet in. It was mid-70s outside (plenty warm for Zoe coming from Utah) but a little chilly for our hot-weather girl. The pool was about 55 degrees! But the kiddos had a great time hanging out and playing in the sunshine.
That evening Beth and Phil watched all four kids so that Matt and I could go the 20/30 holiday party. It was great to hang out with all of our friends at the party but so hard to leave Beth and Phil at the house. We wanted to be in both places at once!
The next day we spent time relaxing at our house. The kids played, and played, and played. We watched Christmas movies, made lunch, watched tv and just hung out. It was great. That night we had taco soup for dinner and homemade chocolate peppermint pie, compliments of Matt Wolach. He's becoming such a chef (and I LOVE it!!) We sang happy birthday to Zoe as she turned five the week before and then we drove to Grayhawk to walk through the neighborhood and see all of the Christmas lights. The kids loved getting outside and the grown-ups got to walk off some of the food that they ate.
On Sunday we packed up the car and headed for the Cardinals vs. Broncos football game at University of Phoenix Stadium. We left the big kids at home with a sitter (bless her heart!) and we took Ellie out for the game. Ash, Afton, Grandma Sarah, and Grandpa Dave met us at the stadium and we had a great time tailgating. Matt made specialty burgers and we had snacks and potato salad. The game was kind of a bust (for those of us Broncos fans) but we still had a wonderful time together. Plus, Ellie really enjoyed her first tailgate and football game. haha
That evening Beth, Phil and the kiddos had to fly back to Utah. It was so hard to see them leave because we love hanging out with them. We're already working on a plan to visit Utah soon so we can get back together!

Chats with Hayden
Hayden has been talking up a storm for the last few months. We have full on conversations with her and she has been really good at asking questions and answering us in complete sentences. We have had some hilarious conversations lately and thought that you all would enjoy them too.
Conversation #1:
Mommy - "Hayden, would you like to wear a sweater today? It's kind of cold outside."
Hayden - "Yes. A sweater would be nice."
She took a second before answering me to really consider whether or not she wanted to wear a sweater. We love that she's got an opinion about things.
Conversation #2:
Daddy, Hayden, and Anabelle were out running errands while Mommy was at work. They were driving and about 10 minuets from home.
Hayden - "Daddy, Ellie is crying. I think she's hungry."
Daddy - "Thanks Hayden. I can hear her. I will feed her as soon as we get home."
Hayden takes a few seconds before responding...
Hayden - "Daddy. You have boobies?!"

Thanksgiving in Wyoming
This year we spent Thanksgiving in Wyoming and we had such a great visit. The girls got to spend time with their great aunts and uncles, great grandmothers, and grandparents.
It was pretty chilly the majority of the time we were there and we had to really bundle them up when we went outside. But there were a couple of days that were "warm" enough to be outside playing in the snow and feeding great Grandma Sonya's chickens.

Whiskefers
Hayden has a fascination with Pop's whiskers. When he was in Phoenix for Anabelle's birth she became really interested in them. The funny thing about them though is that Hayden calls them "whiskefers".
We're not sure why she has a hard time pronouncing whiskers. She usually does very well with pronouncing words but this one always gets that extra syllable. But, it's so cute and totally hilarious that we don't really correct her.
When we were in Laramie over Thanksgiving she continued her fascination with Pop's "whiskefers" and enjoyed tugging at them. I thought this was a great sequence of photos capturing their interaction.

Where Are We?!
The weather here in Phoenix the last few weeks has been so strange. I'm beginning to wonder if we're really in Arizona or in some episode of the Twilight Zone.
Three weeks ago it was pretty warm (about 75 degrees). Matt's family was in town and our five year old niece went in the pool. Hayden put her feet in but had no interest in getting in any further. Definitely not warm enough for swimming but plenty warm for a five year old from Utah to splash around in.
A couple of weeks ago we had a heavy, heavy, fog (see picture). Christmas week we went out to look at Christmas lights and had to bundle up and take umbrellas because of the rain.
This past week it's been so cold that we've had frost warnings and people have been covering their plants and flowers with sheets. And two days ago, Afton and Ash called to tell me that it was lightly snowing at their house and that they were going to take Hayden outside to take a look at it!!
So, seriously...where are we?!

All Smiles
Anabelle is such a sweet and happy baby. She rarely cries (usually only when she's hungry) and happily gives a big smile when someone smiles at her. Here are some of our favorite smiles from the last few weeks.
Who's Your Boyfriend?
We were eating breakfast this morning and Matt asked Hayden if she had a boyfriend. Her immediate answer was "no." But then she said, "I have a boyfriend, Daddy! I have a boyfriend!" When we asked who her boyfriend is she said "CHATAH!"
Oh Chatah! We didn't formally introduce Chatah to the readers of this blog so let us explain. The night we put up our Christmas tree we introduced Hayden to "Elf on a Shelf". First let me say that whoever created Elf on a Shelf is a genius. We bought a box set that comes with a little elf and a book. You read the book to your kids and tell them all about an elf that comes down from the North Pole to keep an eye on them for Santa. Every night their elf goes back up to the North Pole and reports to Santa about whether they've been good or bad. When the elf comes back in the morning he's in a different spot. The Elf is magical and can't ever be touched so he typically sits up high. The Elf has to be named by your kiddo and Hayden decided on the name Chatah.
She loved looking for Chatah every morning. It was the first thing she wanted to do and would typically find him within 30 seconds of looking for him. He moved around between the tv room, the kitchen, the dining room, and the living room.
Christmas Day was his last day with us this year. He sat perched on the Christmas tree and watched Hayden open her presents and then went back up to the North Pole until next December. She still asks about him from time to time, as I'm sure she will for the next few weeks. And now it looks like he is Hayden's first boyfriend.

Cardiologist Appt
On Tuesday Anabelle and I drove to downtown Phoenix and had our monthly visit with Dr. Papez. The appointment was good and he said that Anabelle looks great.
They took her weight and measured her height and she grew 2 pounds and 2 inches in the last month! We noticed that she's definitely filling out lately and becoming less and less like a newborn. But seeing the difference in pounds and inches really proves that she's growing like a weed!
Then they hooked her up and did an EKG. She really is such a great baby. It doesn't hurt her at all, but she doesn't seem uncomfortable or phased by it at all. She was a little wiggly so it took them twice to get the readings, but she was all smiles.
Because she's growing they've increased her medicine to 1mL every eight hours. We'll go back in for another holter monitor testing in a few weeks. The last two that she's done have come back without any SVT episodes (hooray!) so we're hopeful that will continue to be the case.

I took Hayden to her ear doctor in December. She has continued to have ear infections (even with the tubes we had put in a year and a half ago) so her doctor wanted to do a follow up. He said that the reason she continues to have ear infections is due to her adenoids. Unfortunately, if you remove adenoids before a child is older than three they typically grow back. So for the next several months we will continue to give her ear drops and hope that we don't have to do additional surgery.
While we were there she was such a good girl. We waited for almost an hour and she didn't get fidgety until the very end. While we were sitting in the exam room I noticed that she had different colored socks on. It's hard to tell in the picture but she had one pink sock and one white sock. She must take after her Pop in that regard, as he likes to wear one red shoe and one blue shoe. I also managed to get this beautiful close-up picture of her sweet face.

Zoo!
The weekend before Christmas was Matt's annual Aces Bowl trip in Nashville. Don't get me wrong, I love that he has that special trip with his college buddies every year. But I think that the timing this year was an interesting choice.
I tried to get most of our holiday shopping done online this year but there were still a few things that I had to go out and purchase. The only problem was that I decided to do that shopping the weekend that Matt was going to be out of town. I was whining about it during my Book Club meeting that week and my friend Holli offered to watch Hayden so I could go out with just one kiddo. Holli and Shaun have a daughter named Taylor and she is just a few months younger than Hayden. They've played together several times and love hanging out. I immediately accepted her generous offer.
I dropped Hayden off on Saturday morning and Ellie and I went out for a marathon shopping adventure. Hayden, Taylor, Holli, and Shaun went to the Phoenix Zoo for the morning. They saw monkeys, tigers, an elephant, and giraffes. The girls walked around together and even held hands. They also shared lunch together before heading home. Ellie and I got all of our shopping done (we were able to hit 6 stores) and then picked up Hayden right before naptime.
Thank you to Holli and Shaun! We owe you a playdate! :)

Nana sent these outfits to the girls for Christmas. They wore them a few times before Christmas and also wore them on Christmas Eve. They were both very excited to wear them.
