Birthday Weekend
The rest of Hayden's birthday weekend was spent hanging out with Oma and we had such a fun time. We swam in the pool, ate really tasty food, the girls snuggled with Oma, we went out for frozen yogurt, saw the eclipse, and went to the craft store. The weekend was short but so packed full of fun activities.
Thanks for coming to visit us Oma! We can't wait to have you visit again soon!

That's our girl!
This video of Hayden is classic for three reasons:
1. When she's nervous and really concentrating she sticks her tongue out and wiggles it around just like her Daddy.
2. She is SO proud of herself after she gets done that she does a cute little march.
3. She's such a monkey and thinks she can climb up anything.

As You Wish
We chose to have Hayden's birthday party at As You Wish and we are so glad that we did. It was GREAT!!
They let us pick out pottery for the kiddos to paint, we brought in all of our own food, drinks, snacks, and cake, we were able to go in and decorate early, we had two team members there to help us do everything, and we didn't have to clean our house!!
As You Wish is a little pottery painting place at Desert Ridge, which is a few miles from our house. My Mom and I got there at 10:00, got everything set up, and by 10:30 we were enjoying Starbucks, chatting with Stephanie our photographer, and waiting for guests to arrive. Hayden, Matt, and Anabelle got there and Hayden was so excited for her friends to come. As each kiddo arrived they picked out a piece of pottery to paint and then sat at a long table. Once everyone was there the team members gave the kids some instructions and then let them get started. There were some really great (crazy) designs and it was so neat to see all of the parents helping their kids mix colors and slap on the paint.
After everyone was done painting they got up to stretch their legs and get a snack. We had goldfish (mermaid theme, remember) and CapriSun (nothing to do with the theme). Matt ran across the way to pick up the pizza from Slices, which we followed up with cupcakes. Our friend Angel made a cupcake cake for us using both chocolate and vanilla cupcakes and designed a Hayden look-a-like mermaid. The cake was so cute and Hayden totally loved it.
After cake several of the kiddos helped bring packages over to Hayden to open. We all oohed and aahed at the fun presents that she got - and man did she get some great stuff! The party ended shortly after the present opening and everyone took home seahorse-shaped cookies. The party only lasted 90 minutes but it really was the perfect amount of time (and craziness).
When we got home everyone took a nap. Yup - all five of us! The rest of the evening was spent playing in the pool, eating more cupcakes, and looking through all of Hayden's loot.

Four!!
May 18th was Hayden's fourth birthday. We still can't believe how quickly the last four years have gone and that our sweet little baby is now a beautiful, caring, sassy, smart, funny little girl.
A week before her birthday I made a little paper chain with seven links to rip off each day as a countdown. The night before, as I was tucking her into bed I told her all about how she was born. She asked if she was "cut out" of my stomach. Luckily I had her via c-section so I dodged a bullet and was able to answer that with a simple "yes" and kept moving along with the story. However, I'm sure she now thinks that all babies are cut out of their mothers. We'll cross that bridge when we need to...
After she was sound asleep we blew up balloons, hung streamers in front of her door, and laid out all of her presents. On the morning of her birthday she was treated to donuts with a candle on top and was allowed to open a birthday present. We took pink and purple cupcakes to school and I told her I'd be back to pick her up at 12:30.
At 12:30 she and I drove to the airport to pick up Oma for a quick weekend visit. As soon as we had her we drove to a local nail salon and the three of us had pedicures (and Hayden got a manicure too). I have painted her nails plenty of times but I haven't ever taken her anywhere so this was a very special treat. I was worried that she might get shy and not want to go through with it but she did really, really well. She picked out purple polish and purple glitter and also got white polka dots. The owner of the shop did her nails and Oma's nails and was so great. And coincidentally, it was her birthday that day too.
After our mani/pedis we stopped at Starbucks for a little treat, picked up Anabelle, and then headed home. Unfortunately, Matt had come home early that day because he came down with the flu. He felt absolutely awful and felt even worse that he wasn't up for her birthday dinner. But Oma, Ellie and I took her out and we had a great time at Red Robin. Hayden ordered a milkshake, pizza, and mac-and-cheese for dinner, got a balloon, and was sung to. She really was in heaven.
When we got home she got to open more presents and she and Ellie played and played.
It really was such a special day with our sweet girl!

Conjunctivitis x2
A couple weeks ago on a Friday night Hayden came home with little eye boogies. I didn't think much of it until I had to wipe her eyes four times before bed. Then I realized her left eye started looking a little red. Boooo...
We put her to bed and I called her swim teacher to cancel swim classes for the next day. On Saturday morning Hayden's eyes were mostly swollen shut, full of boogies, and the whites of her eyes were all red. I was able to get her into the doctor where he diagnosed her with not one but TWO pink eyes. SO awesome but nothing some eye drops wouldn't fix. Hayden was a champ about doing the drops twice a day and was good about reminding us to put them in too. So...take that pink eye!!

Play Ball!
Matt plays on a softball league on Thursday nights and last week we went out to watch him play. We picked up Jack in the Box on our way over and then spent about an hour there cheering on Daddy.

First Haircut!
On Mother's Day we went out and got Ellie's hair cut for the first time. We always go to Cool Cuts and they do such a great job there. The girls each got their own car to "ride in" during the cut - Ellie was in a fire engine and Hayden in a Taxi Cab and they each got to watch a movie during their cut.
They were both really good and Ellie loved the whole experience, which was a good thing because her little baby mullet had to go!

Family Pictures
A few weeks ago we asked our photographer, Karen to take pictures of Hayden before her fourth birthday. Hayden did a really good job listening and Karen got some great pictures of her. We met her at a spot only a few miles from our house called City North. The development is beautiful but kind of a ghost town as it popped up after the big crash in '08. Sad for the developers but good for us. The evening light was perfect and there was hardly anyone around. Halfway through the shoot the girls were getting a little sassy (I take that back, Ellie was feeling a little sassy for most of the pictures) but we decided to try and buy a little more time from them by getting Mojo frozen yogurt. It worked like magic and we got a few more cute pictures of the girls together.
It's so fun to look at pictures of our growing family and see how much we all change over the years.

WebPT Family Picnic
On Cinco de Mayo we attended the first annual WebPT family picnic and it was a blast! Matt works with so many fun people and we had such a fun time romping around at Enchanted Island at Encanto Park. We ate burgers and dogs, the kids bounced in the bounce castle, we rode the train, the kiddos rode on a bunch of amusement rides and then played in the splash pad. We finished it up with watching the kiddos do some karaoke.

Watching Vids
Today the Lecce family emailed out some videos of their family. They are our dear friends who live WAY too far away (in Rochester) and who we miss terribly. They have two kiddos that are very close in age to Hayden and Ellie and we hate that we have to watch them grow up from across the country.
But Sheila is SO good about sending pictures and video of the kiddos and Hayden and Vincent have even shared video messages to each other. Ellie is now starting to enjoy seeing pictures and videos of Vincent and Stella. When we got the new videos today they both sat on the couch with Matt to watch.
We love you Lecces! Now...how about moving to Arizona?! ;)

Candyland
Hayden has developed a love for Candyland. It must be in her genes because I remember playing back to back to back (to back) games with my Grandma and my brother when I was little. Ahhhh, I used to love that game. The cards were all bent (well loved) and that board was probably played on a good 500 times.
I'm starting to think that it's a good idea to get Oma and Grandma Sarah up to speed on Candyland so that they can help with this love-affair of Hayden's.

Goodbye Sunglasses
Ellie and I were watching Hayden's swim class yesterday and Ellie was being so good. I let her play with my sunglasses (my favorite, favorite sunglasses). I got some really cute pictures of her (see below) and we happily watched Hayden's whole lesson.
Hayden got out of the water and as I was drying her off I realized that Ellie was being exceptionally quiet. I looked over and realized that she managed to rip both of the arms off of my sunglasses.

Three Musketeers
These are Hayden's very best friends, Eliana and Brianna. These three girls have been in the same class together at daycare since birth (basically) and they all love each other so much.
Second Chance for Sophia
A few weeks ago we attended an event called "Second Chance for Sophia: Reversing Retts Syndrome".
Our dear friends, Jim and Audra Small, have a sweet little girl named Sophia. She was diagnosed with Retts Syndrome and the event was put on by her family to raise money to help reverse Retts Syndrome. To learn more about Sophia and Retts you can watch this video:

The event was so well put together. They had all kinds of wonderful food, a silent auction, we were able to visit with a bunch of our friends, and Matt did a great job (a looked super handsome) as the emcee of the event.
We were so glad we could be part of such a special night.
